Affirm Committee

Mount Royal United Church is an Affirming Congregation.

No matter who you are, or where you come from, or what your faith journey,

you are welcome within our community of faith.

Mount Royal United Church seeks to welcome and include all persons in our ministry.

This is reflected in our Mission Statement:

We are called together as a community of faith,

resolving to be welcoming and caring as we follow Jesus’ commandment to love one another.

We witness to the movement of God’s Holy Spirit

in us and through prayer, study, worship, and by working for justice and peace.

We value diversity,

joyously affirming that whatever theirability, age, ethnicity, gender, language, race, sexuality or status,

all are invited to participate fully in the life of this congregation.

To this end Mount Royal United Church became an official member of Affirm Canada/S’affirmer Unie on October 17, 2017.  This required a vote by the whole congregation, taken the previous May, and followed five years of careful reflection and consultation about what it means for us to be both welcoming and inclusive of all people.

What is Affirm United/ S’Affirmer Ensemble?

Affirm United/S’affirmer Ensemble (AU/SE) is a justice-oriented organization of people in The United Church of Canada. AU/SE works for the full inclusion of people of all gender identities and sexual orientations in The United Church of Canada and Canadian society. It works in partnership with the United Church of Canada, but is an independent, volunteer-led movement.

United Church of Canada ministries have used the Affirm process to study, reflect, educate pray and ultimately decide on becoming Affirming.  Mount Royal United joined hundreds of other congregations who are on their own Affirming journeys, challenging traditional Christian homophobia and transphobia, living their belief that God’s love is for everyone and all creation, an unending circle of love.

Affirming Ministries offer a voice and support for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
