Mount Royal United Church is seeking an enterprising person to take on a leadership role with
our Christian Education (Sunday School & Youth) team, children, youth members and their
families. The position is currently approved for 10-13 hours a week, including Sunday mornings.
MRUC is an Affirming Congregation which is multi-generational and inter-cultural.

Children & Youth Ministry Skills Profile
The position is open to any lay person with the following skill set:
A person who has the appropriate background (theological training or equivalent would be helpful) and experience working with children & youth;
An interest in and the ability to resource Children & Youth Programming;
An ability to engage in faith based conversation;
Demonstrable Christian faith & spirituality;
An ability to support the Sunday School & Youth Group leaders both on Sundays & as required to prepare for the classes;
Ability to connect with young people and relate to their needs & desires;
Ability to use social media, including online platforms such as Zoom, to engage with young people;
Experience with the spiritual education needs of youth and the particular challenges associated with providing a safe and engaging environment for 12-18 year olds;
An understanding of the United Church of Canada ethos;
Sensitivity to diverse theological positions found at MRUC among its members of all ages;
Sensitivity and openness to a diverse group of young and old (language, cultural background, gender identification, lifestyle, etc.)
Strong leadership & effective communication skills;
A working knowledge of French;
Current Police Check (in place before the job offer is confirmed)
Duties & Responsibilities
Between 10-13 hours per week with the possibility of increasing hours in the future.
Organize and implement safe programs for children and youth up to 18 years of age that are fun, empowering, nurturing of faith development, and builds a sense of community; (primarily on Sunday morning, but occasionally for special programs/meetings during the week.)
Order Sunday School and Youth Group curriculum & other arts & crafts materials on a timely basis;
Support volunteer leaders; this may include leading/teaching Sunday School or Youth Group classes when necessary;
Organize and maintain a Youth Adult program for 18+ outside of Sunday morning on a periodic basis;
Foster connections with parents of children and regularly via email & social media
regarding MRUC events, meetings, church functions, and wider community youth
activities (e.g. other United Church / Presbytery youth events);
